Radiology is the process of using imaging technology like x-ray and radiation to diagnose and treat diseases. Radiologists use different methods of radiology in forms of ultra sound, MRIs, Sonograms, nuclear medicines to diagnose a patient’s illness.

Academic requirements

 A Radiologist must complete at least 13 years of post-high school education. This includes the undergraduate training, four years of medical school, and five years of post-graduate training. This also includes practice in medicine and getting an authorize license. Apart from learning skills, radiologist professionals should also have good communication skills, because they spend quality time interfacing with patients. They do this while taking their body images and providing medical help for their problems. Other areas of radiology professionals including radiation therapists and radiology technicians obtain practical experiences during formal academic programs or on the job training whilst they are being educated.

Career in radiology

If you want to consider a career in radiology you must have a good understanding of general medicine. But most of all you need enthusiasm, good eyesight and the determination to work. It’s the right choice of career for people who have competence and set of other skills.   •     Radiology programs require working with high equipments and technical machines, therefore it is important that the radiologists have the full understanding about how they function and how to use them properly.
  •     A radiologist technician must have good physical skills in order to move, lift or even carry patient’s .sometimes they even have to move around the machinery.
  •     A radiologists needs to have deep empathy with their patients. This is because most of the patients find it hard to digest their medical conditions and diagnosis. They also tend to be frightened by big machines and what they will do to them. A good radiologist will have to be genuine and understanding.
  •     Good communication skills are a must. A radiologists needs to have strong verbal techniques so it is easier to discuss any treatments with their patients.
  •     Writing and reading skills are required, so they can read test and prescriptions set by doctors.They will also need to write emails, Memos and letters.
  •     A radiologist often consults with the doctors regarding their patients care. The ability to have such leadership skills is very crucial in this field.
  •     Doctors prescribe certain test for patients for some reason. A radiologist’s will have to make sure he/she makes no mistakes when doing his job as that would result in severe problems. They will have to be very precise in following given orders.

Future in radiology

Radiology is a growing field that will always have space for graduates; it serves as a favorable chance for future prospects. Radiology programs always carry a high level of income and security with the high power technologies and advanced applications.
